Get your New Years Resolutions Right

How to Succeed with your New Years Resolutions

With the New Year comes the opportunity for you to turn things around, to shake off past mistakes and bad habits. With the promise that this year will be different, the New Year renews hope for your aspirations, but what happens when your motivation begins to fade and your dreams seem less important than they were just a month or so ago.

Making the commitment to a goal is the easy part, the thing that sets the successful apart, is their discipline and dedication. As our lives get busier, it’s easy to let other things take precedence or to lose motivation. It’s when you see this pattern evolving that you need to re-set. You have to put yourself first and while that’s not always easy, if you are determined to succeed then you will always find time to do the things you need to do.

If you are having trouble staying on top of your resolutions then here are a 4 simple strategies to help get back on track:

1.    Partner Up – find someone who can join you in your journey. Having someone to train with will mean you are less likely to put your training on the back burner for the day.

2.    Join a club or group fitness programme – where ever you are there are always clubs or local activity groups to get involved with. It might be a yoga class, walking group or bootcamp, whatever the initiative, if it interests you - give it a go!

3.    Revisit your goals - when you lose direction or motivation then take a moment to review your goals. Remember to look at your achievements to date and to consider these in relation to the bigger picture. It's easy to get overwhelmed if you are constantly focused on the end goal, so break it down and take it one step at a time.

4.    Reward yourself - it's important to celebrate your successes, but just as important to do it in a positive way. Get yourself a massage, a new dress or even a new toy. Make sure that you value your rewards, that they are predetermined and that they don't undermine your efforts to date.
