Spring Clean your Training Routine
Spring is Here, so it's Time to Dust off your Runners!
As spring reintroduces us to warmer weather you might be feeling inspired to break out of the house and into your outdoor exercise routine. After all, summer is on us and so it's time to shed that winter coat. But where do you start?
We have 6 Strategies to get your Spring Exercise Routine off to a good start:
- Clean out the Wardrobe – start fresh this spring by getting rid of all those old and tired work out clothes from last year. Comfort goes a long way as does the feeling of a clean start. New clothes and shoes will get you in the right mindset to launch you into your new programme.
- Nutrition – you are what you eat, so diet will have a huge impact on the results you achieve. If you are undernourished you will have a hard time finding the mental and physical energy to get out and active. Read more…
- Drink Up – no matter what you are doing, your body will function better if it is well hydrated. Try to drink at least 2 litres of water over the course of the day with another litre for every hour you work out. Read more...
- Choose your attitude – a positive mind set goes a long way. Remember, in every situation you have the opportunity to choose your attitude. Talk the talk and it will be that much easier to walk the walk.
- Set audacious and achievable goals – goals are a big part of any process of change. Write them down on a piece of paper. It has been found that writing out your goals leads to a greater chance of succeeding in achieving them. Next to your goals, give yourself a time frame. Without a time frame, goals lose their urgency and become dreams. Read more…
- Talk to your Personal Trainer – consider spending a little money to get your Spring Clean Exercise Routine off on the right foot. Having a Personal Trainer can set you up on a programme specific to your lifestyle and exercise goals.
If you have been relatively inactive over winter, it’s important to start out slowly. Remember to warm up and down with stretches as well as a gradual build up and wind down in your exercise intensity levels.
Most importantly, if you are out on the roads after dark, be safe! Wear light visible clothing and reflectors or lights where appropriate. Finally, have fun out there. Get friends and family involved in your new programme and choose activities you enjoy. Now go out and get into your spring training.
